Roger Federer had surgery Tuesday for a torn meniscus in his knee and will be at least 30 days without playing. The Swiss said his injury and the medical part of a particular way: a tweet with emoticons.

Federer, 34, declined to participate in the ATP tournament in Rotterdam and Dubai, said on Facebook that was injured last Friday, a day after his semifinal against Novak Djokovic in the Australia Open.
